Q: How are emission factors assigned to transactions?
A: For every transaction, the system identifies the most accurate emission factor available by matching the data in the file – including the description, supplier name, and any additional description.
The AI uses the information provided by the user to search a database of emission factors and identify the closest matches. The richer and more accurate the input data is, the better the AI can narrow down to the most precise factor.
In other words, data quality matters: clear descriptions, correct supplier details, and any extra notes significantly improve the chances of finding the most relevant emission factor and ensuring more reliable carbon accounting results and less time spent in manual review.
Q: Which emission factor database is used?
A: For spend based assessments the system uses the Exiobase emission factor database – more details are available here EXIOBASE Emission factor database.
For activity data in Scope 3.1 and 3.2 we use Ecoinvent database
