Data Checklist for Alloys (FeMn, FeCr, FeNi)

This checklist helps non-EU suppliers and exporters understand which data points are relevant for calculating CBAM emissions for Alloys, including Ferro-manganese (FeMn), Ferro-chromium (FeCr), and Ferro-nickel (FeNi). The process is adapted to the specifics of each alloy type to support accurate reporting.


🔍 Step 1: Identify Your Product and CN Code

What to do: Determine if your product falls within the “Alloys (FeMn, FeCr, FeNi)” category.

Why it matters: The CN code defines what data is required for CBAM compliance.

How to proceed:

  • Refer to the EU’s CBAM guidance to find the correct CN code (e.g., codes under 7202).

  • Ensure the product is correctly classified as Ferro-manganese, Ferro-chromium, or Ferro-nickel.

  • Record your CN code for use in reporting.


⚙️ Step 2: Select Your Production Method

What to do: Identify the specific production process used.

Why it matters: Emissions and material inputs vary by production method.

How to proceed:

  • Choose one of the following production methods:

    • Ferro-manganese

    • Ferro-chromium

    • Ferro-nickel

  • Collect data specific to that method for CBAM assessment.
    Note: data collection flow will depend on the production method selected


🔌 3. Collect Data

What to do: Record all data points used in your production, ranging from materials/precursors to electricity used in production. Make sure to collect the data for a whole year and for the total amount of Alloys produced.

Why it matters: Input materials like sintered ore contribute directly to your emissions total.

How to proceed:

  • Identify and document all precursor materials, such as ores, reductants, and sintered ore.

  • Contact suppliers for emissions data or refer to default values using CN codes.

  • Log total energy used (e.g., electricity) and other production metrics tied to your selected production method over each reporting period.


📊 4. Get Emissions Calculations and Reporting

What to do: Track the total output Ferro-manganese, Ferro-chromium, or Ferro-nickel produced during the reporting period.

Why it matters: This data is used to calculate emissions per tonne of product.

How to proceed:

  • Go to the Product Emissions section in the reporting module.

  • Review your calculated emissions based on the data you submitted.

  • Use the results for CBAM reporting obligations and to support internal ESG goals.
