What are user roles?

User roles are predefined collections of settings that control what users can see and do within the tool.

What roles exist in the tool?

In the tool, there are three different user roles: Admin, Contributor, and Viewer.

This article covers what each user is permitted and not permitted to see and do within the app.

πŸ’‘ In general, if you do not see a certain page in the app that another user can see, in most cases, this is because you have different roles.

Admin

The admin can do everything in the app. Their access is not restricted, and they see the entirety of available features.

Things only admins can do:

  • Update or delete any data entry

  • Update or delete any data import jobs

  • Create, edit, or delete locations and company information

  • Manage users, i.e., invite, activate, and deactivate users, or change their roles

  • Manage the subscription

Contributor

The contributor can only see the work that is assigned to them or created by them. They cannot manage the company and user settings.

Things contributors can do:

  • Create new data entries

  • View, update, or delete their assigned data entries (and only those)

  • Create new data imports

  • View, update, or delete data imports created by themselves

  • View and edit their profile page

Things contributors can't do:

  • View and export the dashboard and emissions calculations

  • Export data entry table

  • View all data entries or data imports created by everyone

  • View, create, edit, export, or delete the locations and company information

  • Manage users

  • Manage the subscription

Viewer

The viewer can view all calculation-related information in the app: data entries, dashboard, and locations.

Things viewers can do:

  • View and export the dashboard and emissions calculations

  • View all data entries or data imports created by everyone

  • Download a file from a data import

  • Export data entries table

  • View the company page

  • Export locations table

  • View and edit their profile page

Things viewers can't do:

  • Create, update, delete, or be assigned to data entries

  • Create, update, or delete data imports

  • Create, edit, or delete locations and company information

  • Manage users

  • Manage the subscription
